Mark Bergman
I am seeking election to the Eagle County Health Service District (best known as Eagle County Paramedic Services) Board of Directors because serving my community is fulfilling and enjoyable. I previously served a two year term from 2020-22.
My experience in emergency medical services spans thirty years including EMT, Paramedic, line officer, acting chief and Board President with several ambulance services and National Ski Patrol. I understand the important mission of this organization. ECPS is one of the best run paramedic services with which I have been affiliated. Our paramedic service is in excellent shape operationally and financially due to the great leadership the current board, management and staff deliver daily. We have a superb staff developed around a core of long tenured people.
During my previous term, we worked through two of the most challenging and contentious years in the history of the district including the pandemic, wildfires and litigation all while navigating senior leadership changes. I worked on important strategic projects including employee home ownership, a CEO search, facilities renovation and a new strategic plan. These are all critical works in progress that I hope to continue. I also completed the Special District Association Leadership Academy mostly at my own expense as the academy continued after my term in office expired. About 30 people from around the state are selected for this training annually.
I have dedicated much of my life to public service and non-profit leadership. I have proven my commitment to our community including the sacrifices of putting others before self. My other community service roles include the Eagle County Zoning Board and President - Vail Automotive Classic Foundation. My community engagement has allowed me to develop relationships with many of the community leaders ECPS works with to create innovative health care services. Prior roles include multiple terms as Director, President and Treasurer with several Boards of Realtors® and non- profit groups, Vice-President- NYS Association of Realtors®, Town Planning Board appointments and Chairing a Special Planning Commission. I have written grant applications to Federal and state agencies and I've led lobbying delegations at state and federal capitals. When not volunteering my time, my career included owning my own businesses, CEO of a professional trade organization and a diverse corporate career that included working with government agencies. Throughout these roles I negotiated contracts and worked on significant legal matters that allow me to confidently navigate legal issues.
I find fulfillment in service to others and especially enjoy supporting the mission of the Eagle County Paramedic Service. I take a professional approach to representing Eagle County's tax payers as well as the dedicated and selfless first responders employed to protect you. I think it is important that one Director has in depth emergency medical service experience balanced by business and local government experience in order to understand and consider all sides of decisions made by the Board.
